Our Story

Founded in 2022, Coffee Brigade was created to bring great tasting speciality coffee to local events in Essex.

We wanted to show people just how good coffee can taste when you step away from those instant granules and make a cup of quality coffee. For our founder Jamie, his passion for coffee started in Italy. After going to a small mountain town in Tuscany to learn Italian he fell in love with coffee, mainly the espresso. After eventually moving to Milan and living in Italy for a year he couldn’t understand why the coffee back in the UK often tasted so bad. So, he decided to work out why. He attended various speciality coffee courses, did some trials in coffee shops and eventually bought his own machine to try out at home. He now has his very own mobile speciality coffee business.

We wanted a business that truly stood out from the crowd, hence why we decided to start out in a vintage fire engine from France. We aim to give you the best tasting coffee experience. Our beans are speciality graded, ethically sourced and freshly roasted.

We’re based in Billericay but you’ll find us out and about across Essex at local events and markets.

Our van

Our van is an original Renault Estafette from 1968 (R2137 version), originating from France. It’s left-hand drive and use to be used by the French fire brigade of Leuglay to transport hose pipes and other firefighting equipment. It has a larger 1,289cc engine and 1000kg load space.

Leuglay is situated in the Cote d’Or department within the Burgundy region. It still has its original blue fire siren. Prior to its life as a fire engine it was in use by the French Post Office. It was brought back to the UK and has since been fully restored and converted into our coffee van.

The truck has two serving hatches and is 4.4m long, 1.8m wide and 2.8 high. We run a Fracino dual fuel coffee machine which is fully gas certified and PAT tested.
